In this report, Emily D. Buehler, PhD, a BJS Statistician, discusses the composition of law enforcement officers in the United States. BJS collected data through the Census of Law Enforcement Training Academies (CLETA) and found that in 2018, 19% of recruits who started and 18% of recruits who completed basic training were female. This report shows trends across states of women in law enforcement.
