In this article, the International Association of Chiefs of Police identify that because domestic violence crimes can be multifaceted, complex, and cause terrible pain, a victim-centered and trauma-informed law enforcement response to domestic violence is essential. This means that officers should understand that victims of domestic violence can display a vast array of reactions to violence; no two victims are the same or respond to their trauma the same.
